Ryan has substantial experience guiding clients through all stages of U.S. and international patent prosecution. He has led due diligence reviews and provided freedom-to-operate and invalidity analyses and searches in connection with product launches, acquisitions, and investments. He represents both petitioners and patent owners in post-grant proceedings, including Inter Partes Reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and reexaminations before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His work spans a broad range of technologies, with a focus on innovations in medical devices and consumer products such as electron microscopes, ion beam instruments, and mass spectrometers.

Before entering private practice, Ryan served as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he reviewed applications in the medical imaging processing and digital watermarking. This experience gives him a practical understanding of the USPTO’s internal processes, which he leverages to anticipate and address issues early in prosecution.
