John is an Intellectual Property attorney who works closely with business owners to address their concerns about protecting major intellectual property assets. He has counseled and represented national and international companies-both established and startups-on a broad range of intellectual property law issues.
John’s practice involves the prosecution and protection of patents, trademarks and copyrights, as well as intellectual property litigation and legal opinions. He is an experienced trial lawyer, serving as trial counsel on both jury, bench trials and arbitration proceedings. John handles litigation involving utility, design and plant patents; trademarks, trade dress, trade secrets, unfair competition, false advertising and breach of contract. He successfully argued before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.
In addition to working with litigation and prosecution matters, John is actively involved in technology licensing and client counseling. John also serves an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, teaching intellectual property law. Prior to joining The Webb Law Firm, John was the managing partner and co-founder of Beck & Thomas, P.C. (2006-2018), which later merged with another firm.
