BIO
Maximilian D. Meese is a multi-discipline intellectual property attorney with experience across patent, trademark, and copyright law. Max secures patent allowances for clients in diverse technologies, including industrial automation systems, artificial intelligence, payment processing networks, and consumer electronics. He also guides businesses in protecting distinctive brands and building strategies that position them for long-term success.
In his trademark practice, Max advises on clearance searches, filing strategies, interactions with examining attorneys, and oppositions, with a particular focus on aligning strong legal protection with consumer-facing brand strength. He also counsels clients on the evolving terrain for descriptions and specimens of goods and services. On the patent side, Max collaborates with inventors to craft robust applications, drafts comprehensive technical descriptions of complex computer and electronic systems, and steers matters through some of the most challenging art units at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), especially in the area of subject matter eligibility.
Max is among the few patent attorneys to successfully defend a derivation proceeding at the USPTO. He has taught three semesters of introductory intellectual property law at Carnegie Mellon University as an adjunct professor. Max is active in the Q. Todd Dickinson Intellectual Property Inn of Court and frequently presents on developments shaping the future of intellectual property.
