BIO

Kent Baldauf is a nationally recognized trial attorney whose practice centers on intellectual property litigation and strategic counseling. Over several decades, he has served as lead trial counsel in more than 300 intellectual property disputes—encompassing patents, trademarks, and trade secrets—across virtually every major jurisdiction in the United States. Kent has guided clients through complex litigation involving computer hardware and software, telecommunication devices, medical devices, industrial machinery, chemical and alloy compositions, among other cutting-edge technologies. He has tried cases to verdict in courts throughout the country, consistently delivering favorable outcomes in matters involving highly technical subject matter and substantial commercial implications. His courtroom advocacy is marked by a synthesis of legal precision, strategic foresight, and narrative clarity—qualities that have made him a trusted advisor to leading corporations and innovators engaged in high-stakes litigation.

Among his representative jury trial matters:

  • Advanced Ground Information Systems, Inc. v. Life360, Inc., S.D. Fla. – Secured a complete defense verdict and an award of attorneys’ fees in a four-patent infringement action involving location tracking technology.

  • Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc. v. Amazon.com, Inc. et al., E.D. Tex. – Achieved a verdict of non-infringement and invalidity on three asserted patents directed to ecommerce technology.

  • Allied Gator, Inc. v. NPK Construction Equipment, Inc., N.D. Ohio – Secured a verdict of infringement for patent owner against competitor involving commercial demolition equipment.

  • National Oilwell DHT, LP v. Amega West Services, LLC, E.D. Tex. – Obtained a defense verdict of non-infringement on all asserted claims directed to oilfield equipment.

  • Penn Engineering & Manufacturing Corp. v. Peninsula Components, Inc., E.D. Pa. – Obtained verdict of trademark infringement involving commercial fastener products.

  • Soverain Software LLC v. CDW Corporation, et al., E.D. Tex. / Soverain Software LLC v. Newegg Inc. (Fed. Cir.) – Represented defendant through trial and appeal, securing invalidation of all asserted patent claims directed to online shopping cart and ecommerce technology.

  • TQP Development, LLC v. 1-800-Flowers.com, Inc. et al., E.D. Tex. – Represented defendant through trial and appeal, resulting in a judgment of non-infringement directed to data encryption technology.

Beyond these noted cases. Kent has tried additional cases to jury verdict, as well as to final decisions before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and the International Trade Commission. In addition to his trial practice, Kent advises clients on the full spectrum of intellectual property strategy. His counseling work includes the global management of patent and trademark portfolios, competitive risk analysis, and alignment of IP protections with broader business goals.
