BIO
James Bosco, Jr. provides comprehensive intellectual property counsel focused on patent litigation, trade secret protection, and patent strategy and prosecution. Jim's practice spans technologies including artificial intelligence (Al), autonomous vehicles, healthcare management systems, and payment systems. He advises clients on developing and defending IP portfolios, managing patent risks, and aligning protection strategies with business objectives.
Jim represents clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), in federal courts nationwide, and in coordination with foreign counsel on international patent matters, handling cases involving electronic commerce, messaging middleware, cryptographic systems, and web technologies. His litigation experience includes helping secure successful invalidation of patents in Soverain Software v. Newegg, involving online shopping cart functionality, and obtaining a jury verdict of non-infringement and invalidity in Alcatel-Lucent v. Newegg, concerning fundamental web technologies, such as sessions and cookies. In addition to litigation, Jim drafts and prosecutes patent applications and prepares software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud services agreements, licenses, and other IP-related contracts to help clients protect and commercialize their innovations. His background as a software engineer and architect strengthens his technical insight in matters involving distributed computing, big data analytics, sensing and monitoring, and health care software.
Jim serves as a panelist and speaker at San Jose State University, participating in programs such as the Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge and the Silicon Valley Business Plan Competition. He remains active in the Silicon Valley legal and technology communities, contributing to programs that foster innovation and bridge law and technology.
