BIO

Christian E. Schuster helps companies protect and grow their intellectual property, with a focus on patents in mechanical technologies and medical devices. Christian handles the full life cycle of IP work at Webb from early invention counseling through patent prosecution and portfolio management in many technical areas. Christian brings an engineering, business background, and patent law experience to each matter.

At Webb, Christian prepares and prosecutes U.S. and international patent applications and coordinates strategies across patent families and jurisdictions. Christian counsels on freedom-to-operate and clearance, patentability, due diligence, design-around strategies, and competitive landscape reviews. Christian also advises on post-grant and contested matters (including inter partes review and PTAB proceedings), and partners with clients to align IP portfolios with product roadmaps in fields such as medical devices, industrial machinery, and automotive components. Before law, Christian worked as a mechanical engineer managing large-scale industrial projects, which informs his practical, commercially focused guidance. Christian also earned a master’s degree in business administration.

Christian contributes leadership and service beyond client matters. Christian is a registered patent attorney and an active member of professional and military organizations. Christian previously served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Major after roles including Commander of a Civil Engineer Squadron detachment and Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at the 911th Airlift Wing - experience that shapes Christian’s collaborative, mission-ready approach at Webb.
