BIO

Frederick H. Colen is a seasoned intellectual property attorney, accomplishing more than 50 years of IP law practice. His deep experience has been in U.S. and foreign patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and other related intellectual property matters and disputes. Fred is also highly adept in licensing of proprietary technology and know-how in both domestic and foreign matters.

Prior to joining The Webb Law Firm in 2017, Fred was at Reed Smith LLP for 38 years, 30 years of which as an equity partner. While at Reed Smith, Fred served as head of the Intellectual Property Group for many years. In addition, he was previously president and a board member of TechLaw Group, Inc. for many years, now an international network of 28 U.S. and foreign law firms with over 10,000 lawyers committed to serving the legal needs of businesses, institutions and individuals involved with technology and intellectual property issues across the globe.

Fred has been appointed by the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania as a Special Master to the Court in patent infringement matters. In addition, as a certified Alternative Dispute Resolution neutral, he has served the court as a mediator, arbitrator and early neutral evaluator for patent, trademark and copyright disputes. Fred has also served as an International Arbitrator before the American Arbitration Association and the International Centre for Dispute Resolution

Fred remains an active participant in many intellectual property organizations and events locally and nationally. He has also authored numerous articles related to his significant IP experience and continues to instruct and provide updates to businesses and educational institutions.
