BIO
Anthony W. Brooks is a successful litigator and IP practitioner who excels at tailoring resolutions and advice to his client's business needs. His practice touches all aspects of intellectual property with the majority of this practice comprising patent litigation, enforcement and trademark practice.
Tony advises clients in a wide range of industries, including software, technology and licensing, building materials, publishing and entertainment, sporting goods, supplements and nutrition, higher education, start-ups and independent inventors. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Tony worked in North Carolina as a chemical engineer for a polyurethane foam manufacturing company based in Richmond, Virginia. His current practice includes both IP enforcement and prosecution of patents and trademarks. He also advises clients on copyright matters and practices before the U.S. Copyright Office. Tony has successfully litigated cases in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and other courts across the country, including the Eastern District of Texas, District of Delaware and Northern District of Illinois. In E.D. Tex., for example, his work conducting the direct examination of his client's technical expert was instrumental in obtaining a full plaintiffs verdict in a patent case involving reflective roofing material. Tony also has extensive experience practicing before the Trademark Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and International Trade Commission (ITC). His experience includes a favorable TTAB precedential opinion relating to color marks, a TTAB decision finding his client's mark famous under the Lanham Act, and a successful oral argument before the PTAB invalidating the claims of a flooring technology patent.
Tony is also active in the legal community having served as president of the Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association (PIPLA) and adjunct professor at Duquesne University School of Law teaching patent litigation and is active in the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) providing yearly CLE opportunities.
