Daniel H. Brean, a Shareholder at The Webb Law Firm, has been appointed an Assistant Professor at the University of Akron School of Law. Mr. Brean will join the Akron faculty in late August, where his teaching and research will focus on patent law and other intellectual property law topics. He will remain Of Counsel to The Webb Law Firm to continue contributing to the firm's appellate and litigation practice.

Mr. Brean has served as an attorney at The Webb Law Firm since 2008, taking a leave of absence in 2011-2012 to clerk for Judge Jimmie Reyna at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. His practice is focused on patent litigation, with an emphasis on Federal Circuit appeals. He has argued six appeals at the Federal Circuit and briefed many more on various cutting-edge legal issues. Mr. Brean served as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law from 2014-2016. While in private practice, he also published several articles in law reviews around the country on topics such as 3D printing technology, patent infringement remedies, and industrial design. Mr. Brean earned his JD cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he also received the faculty award for excellence in legal scholarship. He received his BS degree in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University.

"I am delighted to join the University of Akron School of Law this fall," said Dan. "The Akron faculty and the broader academic community have been wonderfully welcoming and I am eager to get into the classroom." As for his dual professor and practitioner roles, he said that he expects it to be the best of both worlds. "Teaching makes me a better lawyer and lawyering makes me a better teacher. I think that my students and clients can benefit, respectively, from my professional and academic experience."

"We all congratulate Dan on his accomplishments," said Kent E. Baldauf, Jr., Director and Vice President at The Webb Law Firm. "He will make an outstanding law professor, and we are very glad to be able to retain Dan's appellate expertise as Of Counsel moving forward."

Since its inception dating back to 1845, The Webb Law Firm has focused on intellectual property law in the United States and globally. Today, the firm has more than 50 patent professionals having academic degrees in a variety of technical disciplines which enables them to handle intellectual property issues and litigation in nearly all technical fields.
